Feb 2025, Royston Swimming Club recently celebrated a string of podium finishes at the Swim England Hertfordshire County Championships, with standout performances from Lily Chappell and Megan Randall, who brought home an impressive haul of medals.
Megan set the pace early, securing silver in the 14 years age group with 800m Freestyle on the opening weekend. She continued her success with bronze medals in the 400m Freestyle and 200m Individual Medley, before adding silver in the 200m Butterfly and earning a well-deserved place in the Championship final.
Lily showcased her dominance in backstroke events, winning silver in the 13 years age group 100m Backstroke and 50m Freestyle, before storming to gold in the 200m Backstroke, capping off a phenomenal championship for Royston.
Megan also came 3rd in the 14 years female age group ‘Top 8’ by scoring points in placed swims across a number of specific events throughout the competition. A trophy was presented to her in by Greg Coe, Swim England Hertfordshire President.
Beyond the medal tally, Royston’s junior swimmers delivered strong performances throughout the competition. Several competitors reached finals, and Regional Qualification times. Others impressed with personal bests in their finals, demonstrating fantastic progress and the club’s depth of developing talent.
The senior swimmers were consistent and representative in the Open Age Group, delivering PBs, and impressive relay performances against some of the biggest clubs in the County.
Club Chair, Bernie Burch congratulates all swimmers that participated, he adds: “As a small local club we need to maintain a focus on fundraising and sponsorship to make sure the kids can get access to these competitions, and attending this season’s County Championships was made possible with help from grant funding from the North Herts Prosperity Fund, for which we are very grateful.”

Scottish Summer National Championships for RSC Swimmer!
May 2024, Congratulations to Bea, one of our Senior Performance swimmers, who has received an invite to swim at Scottish Summer National Championships in July as a non-residential Scot.
The competition selects the top ranked 32 swimmers in Scotland (22 for 200m/400m events) for each age group on Long Course times gained between March 8 and May 12, and invites them to swim at the national event which will take place on 12-14 July at Aberdeen Aquatics Centre in Scotland. Bea will swim 50 fly at the event.
National Championships are held for England, Scotland and Wales each year in summer, also called Home Nations Meets, and invite the next fastest swimmers once the selection has been made for GB Aquatics British Championships. We are thrilled to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our talented swimmers Counties 2024 held across 3 weekends in January & February.
Leading the charge were Megan and Lily, members of the Junior Performance Team at RSC, who soared to victory both securing a Bronze medal as County Champions in their respective events. Megan showcased her prowess in the gruelling 400IM, securing Bronze in the Female 13 years category, while Lily demonstrated her speed and agility in the 50 backstroke, and 100 backstroke earning a well-deserved bronze medal in both in the Female 11/12 years category.
But the triumphs didn't end there. Our swimmers demonstrated their prowess across all age groups, with impressive performances that saw them completing epic swims and a few swimmers making multiple ‘Finals’ reserved for the fastest 8 swimmers in each age group on the night. Their dedication, skill, and unwavering determination were evident throughout the fast-paced competition, highlighting the depth of talent within the RSC ranks.
As a club dedicated to nurturing technically proficient swimmers and fostering a culture of excellence, we take great pride in the achievements of our members. The success at the Hertfordshire Counties is a testament to the hard work and commitment of both the swimmers and the coaching staff.
